"No Richard, you can't take the lion home"

*****UPDATE*****

After 14 days in tents and yurts - but mostly 4WDs (with the occasional 5 star hotel thrown in) we have left the Serengeti, Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda for a lovely home in Simon's Town, south of Cape Town on False Bay.

We've begun to edit the hundreds of pics so let's jump into the wayback machine and start at the beginning...........................

All news posts appear on the margin on the right - we deleted the temporary ones without pics and will now be doing a more typical, chronological blog......enjoy!

Africa!  We are so excited! Here is a summary of our itinerary, and a map to locate it all!

  • first two weeks in Tanzania (via Nairobi) - a visit to Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara and then 5 nights in mobile camps to see the migration in the Serengeti (yes, Liz and Dick in tents!) - staying at these two Nomad Tanzania camps Seregenti Safari Camp Tent  Nduara Loliondo Yurt
  • then we're off to Rwanda to trek to see the Mountain Gorillas
  • at the end of January we retire to our lovely rental house south of Cape Town for 3 weeks - to visit wineries, see penguins and do laundry!  Simon's town rental house
  • then....we move on to Namibia where we have rented a 4x4 and will drive vast distances in 3 weeks, culminating in a 3 day river cruise in Botswana and then Victoria Falls, before we return to Toronto mid March

A note regarding blog navigation

  • The 10 most recent posts will appear in the upper right hand margin under "Recent Posts" - when we are adding a lot of posts the new posts will tend to "sink" quickly
  • there are other ways to navigate the site to find new posts - on the right hand margin under you'll see "Categories" - as we start to post we'll cluster entries by Country/sights which will appear as we add posts - so you can go directly to an area of interest - for example, if you click on "Tanzania" then you can read the posts chronologically like a diary (the categories are not showing yet)
  • or......click on the Archives by month - it will populate automatically as time passes - at the bottom of the right hand margin
